On Nov. 25th, 3 AVIC technical representatives arrived in Africa to support the life extension of 3 Y12II turboprop aircraft. All of the 3 Y12II has been in service with Africa for 20 years, which is the designed calendar life-span of the type.
During the COVID-19 crisis, the 3 Y12II undertook extensive personnel and cargo transport mission. Meanwhile, the fleet was tasked with an aerial spray mission against African locust every February.
The AVIC technical team designed an optimized work plan to shorten the inspection period from 30 days to 20, despite high temperature and difficulties brought by virus protection measures.
